Buyers Guide for the Best Tower speakers under $500
1. Size and Types of Drivers
When you're searching for a set of tower speakers, you need to have a good set of drivers as this is requisite that caters for the huge chunk of what the human ear can listen to. A good range is between 20Hz to 20kHz. Speakers will larger drivers will produce quality low-frequency sounds while tower speakers with smaller drivers will produce high pitched sounds. The reason for this is that speakers with smaller drivers will produce higher ranges with shorter sound waves. The speaker with a large driver will have a large sound range and quality bass, which makes speakers with a larger driver ideal.
There are different types of drivers that come with tower speakers:
a. Woofers: are suited for drivers with low-frequency sounds from a range of 40 to 1000Hz.
b. Subwoofers: has a much smaller range of 20 to 200Hz. This often produces low-pitched sounds and it's hard for it to produce good quality sounds for this frequency.
c. Midrange drivers: set produces sound within the range of 250 to 2000Hz. It's also called squawker as it carries all the fundamental audible sounds that you can think of. But the sound quality is often determined by the material it's made of.
d. Tweeters derive their name from the "tweet tweet" chirps of a bird. The sounds produce ranges from 2kHz to 30kHz which is well past the sound limit of human hearing.
2. Configuration:
The configuration of a speaker is dependent on a number of drivers it contains. A two-way speaker uses both woofers for low-end sounds while using the tweeters for high trebles. Since it has just two drivers, the two have to cover the sound range for the midrange drivers. A three-way speaker, on the other hand, has a mid-range driver to back up its tweeters and woofers for a greater produced sound. A four-way speaker, which is also quite common, has all the three drivers with an additional super tweeter which is great at relaying intricate upper sound at the best performance possible.
3. Frequency response:
is the sound range the speaker can produce. What you need to look out for is a tower speaker with a wide audio range that emits all the trebles
4. Manufacturer:
One thing to consider is the manufacturer, which is definitely a key factor. Quality tower speakers under 500 are made from top electronic brands that you can identify with easily and they are readily available on top e-commerce stores like Amazon which are some of the largest stores online.

The Cerwin-Vega XLS-28 Dual 3-Way Home Audio Floor Tower Speaker is a floor standing tower speaker with exceptional sound quality. Known as the biggest bass speakers, the Cerwin-Vega XLS-28 Dual 3-Way Home Audio Floor Speaker is known for producing serious music listening results.
It comes with a three-way design and two 8-inches woofers, a 6.5 mid range driver and one tweeter. Each woofer in this tower speaker has a red ring on it to distinguish this brand from others. When you plug it in, you will be immediately captured by the quality of the speakers especially the bass tones.
The Cerwin-Vega XLS-28 Dual 3-Way Home Audio Floor Tower Speaker has no problems producing punchy bass tones that are hard-hitting without being muddy or overbearing.
Some users have mentioned how they got hollow sound quality when they tested the Cerwin in the high ranges as well as found it struggling at the upper-frequency range. This is not a deal breaker though, just some limits that we believe every tower speaker has. If you desire a speaker that can dive down to the lower end and not disappear. The size though could be an issue for some as having two 15-inch woofers is no small joke.
Things We Liked
- Clear Sound
- Punchy bass
- Natural production
Things We Didn't Like
- Poor high frequency response

The Pioneer SP-FS52 Andrew Jones Designed Floor standing Loudspeaker comes in as #5 for our best tower speakers under 500. This floor standing speaker is highly acclaimed and has been tipped among some of the biggest series of speakers available in the market. There 5-1/4" structured surface woofers and oversized magnets give it a much bigger and fuller bass response to its predecessor.
It uses an RF molded curved cabinet to reduce the internal standing waves that come out of speakers. If you want to know how this speaker deals with high-frequency production - it's simple. It uses a 1" high-efficiency soft dome tweeter to deal with it as well as for frequency at high volume levels.
With the help of 8 element complex crossover, there is a perfect blend between the woofer and the tweeter. There are tons of speakers out there and some will require you to shell out a lot of money before you can get them.
The Pioneer SP-FS52 Andrew Jones Designed Floor standing Loudspeaker set is a promise you can keep and take to the bank. The set is phenomenal - the sound quality is excellent. You can place this Andrew Jones' set side by side with other sets that cost upwards of $3000 and the sound quality will still be no different.
The speakers are super awesome and they have bass themselves, but pairing them up with a sub woofer will deepen the effects especially for movies. But for music, the sound is very balanced and smooth. Buying these speakers would be a steal as they will end up becoming the best inexpensive speakers you will ever own.

The Dayton Audio T652 Dual 6-1/2" 2-Way Tower Speaker Pair is a dual 6-1/2" woofer that provides a superb level of bass power that is punchy. This tower speaker has huge bass. It comes with two 6.5 inch woofers but what provides it with so much bass has to be the speaker's large medium-density fliber board cabinet as well as the front-mounted bass port.
This was added to aid the T652's ample bass. How big is the tweeter that comes with the T562? It's 0/6-inch with a polycarbonate dome tweeter. Super amazing, isn’t it? This tower speaker has removable cloth grills with an impedance rated at 6 Ohms. If there is any problem that we noticed with the Dayton Audio T652, it has to be with the 10-foot wire.
It has a pair of color-coded wire but the wire connector doesn't grip the wires as securely as it should. But, this has no effect on performance. It's just a caution for when you decide to move the speakers from its place to another. The major attraction with the Daytona T652 has to be the serious deep bass it has.
The punch is simply incredible. it handles high volume with ease and if you do decide to mix your sound with a few dynamics, these speakers are up to the task. They are great for parties too.

- Good sound
