How to Get Sound from Projector to Speakers | Easy Step By Step Guide

Technology can be a wonderful thing and deliver incredibly cinematic experiences for us in the comfort of our own home--when everything works right! If you have a projector and a home theater setup, you probably want to know how to get sound from projector to speakers so that you can enjoy your home movies and other productions.

It can be frustrating to not know how to get your equipment to work together, but don’t worry. The process of hooking up your projector setup to your speakers is actually quite easy and requires only a short tutorial. We’ll walk you through the whole process and give you some knowledge along the way.

How to get sound from projector to speakers

Before you know how to get sound from projector to speakers, there is some basic knowledge that you’ll have to learn about the equipment that you’re using.

Luckily, we’ve laid it all out here in an easy-to-understand way that you can use to guide you through your home theater projector setup.

1

What sort of cables do you need?

For any kind of home theater setup or to know how to set up a projector with speakers, you’re going to first need to gather all of the necessary hardware for the project. In this project, that will often take the form of cables. Cables are what you use to connect the equipment together to communicate sound, video, and power.

Generally, for each device you are going to need a power cord at least. You will also need a cable that leads from the speaker to the projector for the audio.

2

Turn off the projector and the speakers

The first thing that you want to do before you do anything else is to turn off the projector and the speakers. This is to protect both yourself from electricity and your equipment from the mishandling that can happen when your equipment is on and you are switching around cords and turning power on and off.

Make sure that you double check that projector and speakers are turned off. This is especially important if you have outdoor equipment, even if you have the best outdoor projector

3

Locate the audio jack on the projector

The next step is to locate where the audio is put out on your projector. This should be pretty easy to find and usually is clearly labelled. You must find this to hook up your speakers to the projector and get sound while you are watching your film on the projector.

This will ensure that the sound is properly synced up to the film that is unfolding on the best outdoor projector screen or home theater indoor screen.

4

Insert cable into the projector and speakers

Once you have found the audio jack on your projector, you are ready to hook your speakers up to it. Once again, make sure that both devices are powered off for your own safety and the safety of your equipment. Once that is double-checked, you can plug in your speakers using the provided audio cord into your projector. This now binds the two pieces of equipment so that they will work together when it’s time to watch your film.

5

Turn all the equipment on and test the audio signal

Once you are properly hooked up, you are ready to take the next step. Make sure that the cord is plugged in snugly and that there is very little wiggle room. Also make sure that you have plugged into the right audio port. It should be labeled “audio out”. Then you can turn the equipment back on and test the audio.

The best way to do this is to simply try and play a video with sound on the projector. If you can hear it, great! You have successfully hooked up your speakers to your projector. If you can’t, then you might need to do some troubleshooting to figure out what went wrong.

Troubleshooting audio connection

The first thing to do if you are having a connection problem and your audio isn’t playing is to go through some of the most common errors. First, make sure that both devices are powered on. Can’t have any sound if the speakers aren’t plugged in! This seems obvious, but it happens to a lot of people, especially if they are very busy and have a lot going on at the moment.

Next, make sure that you have plugged your audio cord into the right port. Some projectors have multiple ports to plug into and it’s very easy to mistake one for another, especially if the labels are not clear and written in big text.

Finally, make sure that your cords are snug and are all the way in the port. If they are too loose or not all the way plugged in, that could very well be why you are having problems trying to transmit sound.

If none of this works, you should then refer to the user manual of your equipment or consider the possibility that you might have a defective unit. In that case, you should contact the manufacturer or seller.

How to get sound from the projector to speakers wirelessly

If you want to have a wireless connection, you are going to need equipment that is bluetooth-enabled. That means that you need wireless speakers that are able to connect to a bluetooth connection. You will also need a speaker that has bluetooth capability. Not all machines have this, although they are becoming more common. Make sure that you have the right equipment. Setup is just as easy or easier as if you are hooking up a wired speaker and projector.

Wireless sound connection troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your wireless bluetooth speaker connection, make sure that they are connected to the right device. In this case, it helps immensely to know the bluetooth ID of the device that you are trying to connect to. You might also consider the fact that you could be out of range for bluetooth connection. Many devices need to be within several dozen feet and in the same room to be connected via bluetooth.
